Why did you sign up to do this 5K?
I recently was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my doctor wants me to lose some weight. I found that I really enjoy walking and my daughter-in-law wanted to do it also. I said why not — it will be my first run!
How did you feel once you crossed the finish line?
I felt excited and exhausted all at once.
What would you say was the hardest challenge in this race?
For me, it was difficult because a few days before the race I had been in the hospital; I suffer from rather large kidney stones and the discomfort is debilitating at times. My doctor advised me not to do the race because I could possibly have another attack and end up back in the hospital. Fluids and rest until the surgery was all I was supposed to do.
What was the most rewarding thing about completing this run?
I was so happy that I completed the entire 5k without having any of the repercussions my doctor warned me would happen.
If you have any words of encouragement for new runners, please share!
It was an awesome experience and very enjoyable to do at any pace! Last is not so bad when you have great company!
